Aaron's Review: My Little Pony-Firendship Is Magic

There aren’t many shows that are intended for one audience, but end up attracting another entirely. Myself included. Guys, Gals, & Non-Binary Pals, this is Aaron’s Review of ‘My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’. !Background! The show takes place in the land of ‘Equestria’, a pre-industrial world occupied by various ponies, Pegasus, and unicorns which runs on magic. The main character is a unicorn named ‘Twilight Sparkle’. She is the student of Princess Celestia, the ruler of Equestria, and is told to live in ‘Ponyville’ to study the magic of friendship. There, she meets the other five main characters and the series begins to focus on their interactions and adventures. !Characters! I’ll talk about the characters first. In my opinion, that’s really where the series shines. The interactions between the ‘mane-six’ are what I love about the show as well the characters themselves. Each pony has something called an ‘element of harmony’. The ‘elements’ were used in the first ...

Aaron's Review: Avatar-The Last Airbender

Every now and again, there’s something that changes how we do things. It’s basic knowledge. Change will always be a part of our lives. We just don’t know when it’s coming. Well, I’m here to review a show that changed my life. Guys, Gals, and Non-Binary pals. This is Animated-Aaron’s Review of Avatar: The Last Airbender ! Background Taking place in a fictional pre-industrial universe, the world of Avatar has four nations based on the four elements: Air nomads, Water tribe, Earth kingdom, and Fire nation. One day, the Fire nation attacked the Air nomads committing a mass genocide. This sparked a war that has lasted over 100 years. Two water tribe teenagers named Katara & Sokka find a child in an iceberg named Aang. This 12 year-old just so happens to be the last airbender and a being known as the Avatar. A person who can control all four elements. After freeing him, the three hop aboard Aang’s flying bison (yes, that’s a thing) and go on an adventure that’ll hopefully put an...

Aaron's Review: Ouran HighSchool Host Club

It’s only weird if it doesn’t work. And this works in the best way.  Guys, Gals, & Non Binary Pals, this is Animated-Aaron’s review of Ouran High School Host Club. The show has a pretty odd premise, so bear with me for a second. At Ouran academy, a prestigious school for rich kids, a middle class student named Haruhi gets in due to their high grades. But, Haruhi accidentally breaks a vase owned by the Host club and must work as a host to pay it off. However, the host club is a club where boys flirt and socialize with girls who request them. Haruhi, while able to pass as a boy, is a girl. !The Story So is the conflict about Haruhi’s identity being discovered? Yes and no. That’s a lingering factor but it’s not the overarching narrative. The show is a slice of life comedy where the club members deal with a ‘problem of the day’. However, the problems seem to have a pretty wide range. One episode has a little girl lost in the high school looking for her big brother and ca...

Aaron's Top 5: Pokemon Champions

Pokemon is my favorite franchise. I grew up with the anime and playing the games upon release. One thing I always looked forward to in the main stream games were the champions. The person you face after defeating the eight gym leaders/bosses and removing the threat of a gang/terrorists group. I’m here to list my favorite kings of the hill and conquering queens. Guys, Gals and Non Binary Pals. This is Aaron’s Top 5 favorite Pokemon Game Champions. Honorable Mention:  Diantha, XY 5:  Red, Crystal I love the concept that came with Red being on Mt. Silver. Its like, ‘surprise! Here’s the real final boss!’ They did something similar with Blue, but the build-up was more ambiguous. It’s like a noire film where everyone talks about the great incident 3 years ago involving Team Rocket and how they were broken up.  You get hints that Red, the person behind the overthrow of team rocket, is missing once you enter Kanto. The confirmation that he’s missing comes from whe...

Aaron's Top 4: Pokemon Elite Four

It must suck to be an elite four member. You’re in a group of the best trainers in the region and yet you get no screen time at all. Unlike the gym leaders who sometimes show up before you enter the gym and have a large building with other trainers to help develop them, the elite just get one room and three lines of dialogue before and after the fight. They have to make a very quick impression through the aesthetic of their room and appearance. Everything else has to be told to you through their battle.  It’s incredibly difficult to become a well-received elite four member, so here are the ones that left a lasting impression despite their four lines of dialogue. 4: Drasna, Kalos Altaria, Noivern Dragagle, Druddigon  Pokémon loves to put dragons up on a pedestal. In doing so, every dragon user is this sort of ‘I’m tough’ character. What I like about Drasna is that she’s a grandma who makes sure you eat something before you get to school. Like…wow! How rare is this? T...

Aaron's Top 5: Pokemon Gym Leaders

Gym leaders, the trainers in charge of seeing if the player is worthy of moving on the region’s league. They range from goofy (Wake) to intimidating (Chuck), to flushed out and engaging (Elesa) to ‘I hate you’ (Grant). In any other game, they're called ‘Boss battles’. Here, they’re called Gym battles. Either way, I’m listing the ones that I consider to be absolute bosses. 5: Korrina, Kalos A gym leader that you face before and after the gym battle. Hey! That’s pretty cool! Like most of the Kalos gym leaders, she isn’t that hard to beat. Korrina’s Meinfoo was able to land a few hits but I’m putting her on for her place in the story.  Gen 6 introduced mega stones which is basically a power boost and Korrina did a great job easing the gamer into the concept. Being a gym leader, it makes sense that she’d be trusted with that power. Plus she’s related to the ‘master of mega evolution’. Korrina makes sure you deserve the power she’s giving you along with a Lucario. What I like i...

Aaron's Review: Pokemon-Indigo League

This show was my childhood…and it’s not as good as I remember. Ladies & Gentlemen, this is Animated Aaron’s Review of Pokémon-Indigo League. !Background! Taking place in a fictional world where creatures with supernatural and elemental powers called Pokémon inhabit, the story follows Ash Ketchum on his adventures through the Kanto region. His dream is to become a Pokémon master, someone who captures and trains Pokémon to battle other Pokémon trainers. This show is an adaptation of the Pokémon R.P.G video game by Nintendo. !Setting! Okay, let’s begin with the explanation of how the world works. At the age of 10, kids get their own Pokémon and go out on an adventure to catch other Pokémon and try to be the best in battling other trainers. The goal is to become a Pokémon master a.k.a league champion. In order to enter the league competition, a trainer must first defeat the eight gym leaders in the region. Challenging other trainers is just a way to strengthen Pokémon...

Aaron's Review: Star vs The Forces of Evil

Oh boy! We’ve got a fun show today! Normally, I would mean that sarcastically. Here, it’s genuine. My biggest issues in this review are going to be a pile of nitpicks.  Guys, Gals, & Non-Binary Pals. This is Aaron’s Review of Star Vs The Forces Of Evil  !Setup! Star Butterfly is a fun loving princess whose been sent to Earth as part of her training. Mainly to learn restraint. There she’s paired with another teenager named Marco who tries to look out for her and keep her from getting into too much trouble. But, some monsters who can hop dimensions are after her magic wand. Thus, Star & Marco team up to fight them off every now and again. !Story! The show is about the day to day lives of both Marco & Star. The focus is of course mostly on Star, but by season 2 it’s honestly kind of 50/50. What happens in their lives exactly? Well, everything. Star goes through a transformation called ‘mewberty’ where she becomes boy obsessed. Marco wants his Karate Red Belt...
